In 2008 Belfast Community Circus School acquired sending and host status for the EVS programme, which is funded through EU Youth in Action, with British Council acting as the National Agency. The programme aims to encourage young people to gain experience and training in other countries & cultures.
BCCS hosted 2 international volunteers: Stef from Circus Cabuwazi, Berlin from Sept 08- June 09 inclusive and Mick from Circus Elleboog, Amsterdam from Dec 08-July 09 inclusive.
Both EVS volunteers were involved in all aspects of BCCS and contributed greatly to Circus School. They worked as shadow tutors in Youth Circus, Once a Fortnight, Itty Bitty Circus and in Outreach Projects. They both contributed to office duties, such as reception and administration support for courses. BCCS also ensured that both had access to training and masterclass opportunities, further adding to the volunteers’ overall experience. BCCS was also responsible for arranging the practical living arrangements and welfare of volunteers.
Heartfelt gratitude goes to both for the hard work and enthusiasm that they both showed. In particular Stef did a lot of work on the re-organisation of the costume room and Mick played an important role in the Caravan of Creativity exchange.
At the moment, due to staffing shortages and extensive workloads, we do not have any EVS projects in the pipeline, but we would be hopeful to welcome EVS volunteers in the future and send some of our Youth Circus graduates to our Caravan of Creativity friends.
